About

The Future Museum is a site for showcasing the best of the things that never were: the technologies and ideas that humankind thought would change the world..and didn’t.
Technology promises a lot, and also delivers a lot, too. But that’s not to say that it always manages to fulfil our expectations. Where are our air cars? Time Travel? Invisibility cloaks? Nope – we don’t know either.

Everyone loves technology (especially us..), but it is also interesting to look at the things that were promised or expected and try and understand what never delivered, and why. Was it humankind being over-zealous in terms of expectations, or business promises gone mad?

Looking back it is easy to pretend we can see when things were obviously not going to happen. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Some of the objects we’re featuring are obviously flawed, looking at them now. But think about the things that have been built: mobile phones, wifi, Twitter, lifts, air conditioning. What differs these crazy ideas from some of the things we’ve featured here?
